The number 42 is most notably found in the classic Douglas Adams novel, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and is said to be the “Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything”. It was calculated by an enormous supercomputer named Deep Thought over a period of 7.5 million years.
Unfortunately, no one knows what the question is.
The number occurs all over the place, some more strange than others such as science, sport, and other literary figures such as Lewis Carroll, who was a mathematician as well as the author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland where he used 42 many times.
It’s also the sum of two dice, each having 21, so has a gambling significance as well.
Forty Two Publishing wasn’t set up to be the answer to “Life, the Universe, and Everything” but we do hope to publish books that are useful, educate and entertain (maybe, all at the same time).
